The first time I went it was a three day weekend and a lot of the hotels were all booked. So I found a room in Cambridge, and what a shithole that place was. Let me explain.

It was a four star hotel but it looked like it had been converted from a flophouse for the mentally ill and it had stains and mildew everywhere.

There was a hole in the floor (you have to fall to your death to get out of the way of the next floor of the hotel) and there was crackling everywhere.

I had to share a room with a woman with her dad who smelled like a bum. She wouldn’t let her dad have his blanket because his room was “too cold.” I offered my blanket to her dad but he was just a giant lump of a man.

Then there was the constant drumming/rumbling from the neighbors below. The hallway was like a barn animal’s den. The place was so creepy.

So I booked a flight out the next morning on my Canadian Airlines flight.

Then two weeks later a stupid thunderstorm popped up in the neighborhood and the power went out. The entire neighborhood was flooded. The hotel started charging me for the water I had to pay for. I checked out and left. I don’t think anyone could have lived through the experience.

My next flight back out of Boston was an American Airlines flight. Sure enough, this time the hotel turned out to be a decent place. I was going to spend the night there when another three day weekend opened up. So I booked a room and they charged me for my second night. I didn’t care because they cleaned the place and it was much nicer than the last place.

And then a few weeks after that I flew back to Boston for a friend’s wedding. Of course, I had to stay at the Ritz. Another shithole. But at least it wasn’t as bad as the first time I went to Boston.
