What is Photoshop?

Photoshop can be used to manipulate photographs in a number of different ways, but by far the most common one is to make digital images appear less, or more, realistic in terms of their reproduction on print and other media.

The most basic method is to remove objects and change the colors and shades of them. Another method is to make an image appear more realistic. For example, an image of a dog may have a red nose that is unnaturally bright compared to the rest of the animal. By increasing the transparency of the nose and the lack of transparency of the rest of the animal, the dog appears more realistic.

Photoshop is still used for other kinds of graphics work, such as web banners and images on websites. The application supports import from and export to graphics formats such as PDF, EPS, TIFF, JPEG and several other file types.

It’s not the only image editing program in the world. It’s common knowledge that GIMP is an open source alternative to Photoshop.

Basic tools for image editing

These types of tools are included in Photoshop for the most part. But Photoshop also gives users the ability to add and edit layers.

When you open Photoshop, you will likely see the following:

The Layers panel

The Layers panel gives you a quick way to access and toggle the visibility of each layer in your image.

The Layers panel provides a quick view into layers, giving you the ability to see which ones are visible or invisible.

You can click the eye icon to toggle the visibility of a layer.

The Layers palette

The Layers palette provides a horizontal and vertical view of all the layers in your image. You can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl/Cmd+Tab to toggle between the two views, or you can simply click the palette icon in the top-right corner of your Photoshop window to access a view of all your layers.

Click on the Resample Image button, then click on the size of the new image you wish to create. Resample the image you want to change to a new resolution size. This gives you a new image of the correct size.

#7: To Delete an Image

Right-click on the image you want to delete, then select Delete.

#8: To Open an Image

Click on the Open button to open the file you wish to open. You can find the file location in the left-hand part of your document. This is the address of the file on your computer.

#9: To Save an Image

Click the Save button to save the new image to your computer.

#10: To Edit an Image

Click on the Edit button, then click on the Adjust button. This will open up the Adjustments panel. Adjust the desired settings by clicking on the settings you wish to change.

#11: To Adjust the Tone of an Image

Quilting On The Mind

Friday morning I did not have the time or energy to make a quilt. I had one that was very close to finished, except for the binding. I took a week off from other quilting chores to concentrate on this one. As luck would have it, the fabric I chose to make a border with wasn’t the most suitable. I had never worked with it before. The fabric was green, grey and a royal blue and so it didn’t cooperate well. Instead of coming in fat enough to cut on the diagonal I had to make a number of huge triangles.

I know just what you mean about being in the “one thing all day” zone! However, I enjoyed making the block much more than I would have enjoyed working on a similar fabric. Now I’ve got a problem. I’ve cut enough circles for the border and I’m left with just 5 or 6 background blocks. Not enough for a queen size quilt. I think I’ll have to join them up or make another one.
