Bram Moolenaar contributed the image of the comic book character Robo the Robot to the first issue of AutoCAD. The Robo the Robot icon remains the mascot of AutoCAD, and has been continuously used since the first issue.
AutoCAD: The History
How AutoCAD Came About
How AutoCAD Works
AutoCAD helps users create drawings and designs of 2D, 3D, and wireframe. Many tools can be used to produce drawings, but perhaps the most popular are commands that provide a visual context for creating 2D objects. “Creator’s tools” are used for traditional 2D drafting, while “designer’s tools” are used to create 3D objects.
AutoCAD started life as a macro package to help its author to work more effectively. The macro package contained two types of macro commands:
Auto commands are what are commonly called “Macro Tools” today.
In the beginning, there was no AutoCAD.
In the early 1980s, a civil engineer was at a meeting to discuss ways to automate the layout of civil engineering projects. The engineer, who worked for a German company, had the idea of creating an inexpensive CAD program. It was his idea to automate common drafting tasks to make the job of the draftsman more efficient.
Instead of a keyboard, the engineer used trackball devices to control and move the pen used to draw the design. Later, these trackball devices would be replaced by touchpads or mice.
In order to save time, the software could be given a macro program, where the user would only need to select the command once, and the system would automatically perform the drawing or calculation needed.
In the first issue of the magazine Cadalyst, “Robo”, an imaginary robot, was created to celebrate the launch of AutoCAD. The comic depicted the different ways that Robo’s creator could use AutoCAD to automate his work. The Robo character became the mascot of AutoCAD and is depicted as an animated figure on the covers of all editions of AutoCAD.
The first AutoCAD package, TAB-MAC, was released in November 1981. The first issue of Cadalyst was distributed in early 1982.
Cadalyst, the magazine that introduced AutoCAD, was a magazine for CAD users. In 1991, Cadalyst was converted to a magazine for AutoCAD

The development of AutoCAD Serial Key is split between two companies: Autodesk and Corel. Their main development divisions are located in different continents: Europe in Prague, the United States in San Rafael, California and Canada in London, Ontario. The AutoCAD development team is divided between several disciplines, including engineering, user experience, product management, technical engineering, UI/UX design, documentation, and program management.
The team that creates AutoCAD first requires a design to convert into the DXF format. In previous releases, the DXF format was introduced in the 1994 product, but in version 2017, it was made a required format. Following that, the dxf file format is an open XML file format and allows extension of the original specifications that are applicable for all such files. Thus the AutoCAD 2017 software supports dxf files with a DXF template.
The second part of the design is converting it into a set of cross-platform commands, known as the Autodesk Language or the Language of Autodesk, which allows the software to be compatible with all the platforms that Autodesk supports. The Language is standardized in the Autodesk Language of Autodesk (ALA) and Autodesk Application Design Language (ADL) specifications.
An Autodesk employee (briefly called “AutoCADholic” by John Walkenbach in his book The Autodesk Companion), each year since 2002, has delivered an annual keynote at the Autodesk University.
In 2010, Autodesk purchased Corel.
The Autodesk Exchange Apps marketplace is a location where user-created plugins are sold by individual developers.
All new releases of AutoCAD released since 2007 contain their own CAD-related languages and APIs that allow the programmer to extend AutoCAD.
Integration with third-party applications
Autodesk CAD integrations include a wide range of software products that can be used in conjunction with AutoCAD:
Design review and verification software
Parametric modeling software
Computer-aided drafting, construction, and drawing software
CAD Comparison software
Collaboration and documentation software
History of product and software development
AutoCAD has been on the market for over 25 years, and has sold billions of copies across multiple platforms.
AutoCAD is the leading AutoCAD compatible software and has the largest user community of AutoCAD compatible software.

Add an extra row of text, add lots of characters at once, or make your life easier by trimming large texts. Open new or edit existing text objects by using the rectangle tool, and use the rectangle and character format tools to create small multiline text. (video: 1:36 min.)
A drawing tool to easily and precisely trim areas on a specific corner. This tool works on all rectangles and ellipses. (video: 1:30 min.)
Create objects that use pixels for measurements. You can specify any multiple of 0.001mm. Simply enter the corresponding value of your choice. (video: 1:12 min.)
Change your layout using a toolbar, shortcut keys, and droppers. Select any tool or object on the toolbar, choose an option from the drop-down list, and click the mouse to make the changes. (video: 1:48 min.)
Make adjustments to your drawing. Open a new or edit an existing style with the toolbox. (video: 1:27 min.)
Use the Paste command to copy and paste your drawing objects as easily as pasting a text. (video: 1:07 min.)
When you’re in a tight situation and need more space to work, you can simply flip your drawing page to add more room. Choose the page-flipping option and move your cursor. (video: 1:29 min.)
Rotate your drawing page, turn it 90 degrees, and flip it again, to show all four edges. (video: 1:00 min.)
Take your drawing to a new level. Choose your desired shape or drawing tool to make large rectangles, circles, and ellipses. Click with the mouse to place the rectangle or circle. (video: 0:50 min.)
